2007 St. George v. St. Andrews Rugby Match - Calcutta Cup

The St. George v. St. Andrews rugby event, competing for the Calcutta Cup, kicked off at 8 pm on Monday 19 March at the Hong Kong Football Club. Tricor, the official sponsor for the Calcutta Cup for the 4th consecutive year, welcomed our guests from the legacy firms for this annual event.

A very keenly contested start to the match left the supporters wondering if the success of the last two years would continue. But after the English forwards provided a solid platform for the fleet footed English backs who eventually ran in 6 tries, the England team was determined to retain the Calcutta Cup.

Many of the guests who are Englishmen cheered strongly for their team and were ready for their curry buffet dinner and beer after the match.

The final score of 39-10 was testament to the eagerness of the English team to play 'Barbarian' style rugby. Ably led by Simon Aird and coached by Terry Hart, the second half was a one-way affair. The crowd was delivered with one of the best games of rugby seen in Hong Kong this season.
